I’m passionate about a lot of things, but I never thought one of my passions would become a life long dream come true.
Back in April I was approached by someone who asked me,”Why aren’t you doing something you’re passionate about?”
Let Me Back Up
I was working a job that wasn’t in the agricultural field, but I was doing something I enjoyed. I was a Social Media Specialist for a local car dealership and it allowed me to do one thing I was passionate about – communications. While working at the dealership I was also doing some freelance writing on the side. I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought that was my one way of doing something in the agricultural industry. Never in a million years did I think that I would ever be doing it full time.
I figured, since I lived so far from a large city, that I would have a very small chance of finding something that incorporated both agriculture and communications. But, it was actually in front of me the entire time.
“Why aren’t you doing something you’re passionate about?”
That one statement sent my brain into overdrive. I sat down with the Farmer and ran this statement past him at least a couple hundred times. “What does this mean?” “How should I take that?” “Do they see something in me that I don’t?” and then finally I blurted out, “What if I wrote for a living?”
The Wheels Started Turning
When they say it’s not what ya know, but who ya know, they’re not kidding. I called a few of my close friends, two that actually own their own freelance businesses, and asked their opinion on doing this. I have never, in my entire life, felt so lifted up by friends and family. My mom just did a little giggle and said, “I knew it was only a matter of time before you starting doing this (freelance writing). I’ve known it for years.” My friends all encouraged me, pointed out all my traits that made me a perfect fit for this, and let me know they’d be there for all the bad, good, and rough days. My friends that have their own businesses not only told me that I NEEDED to do this, but how to do it, that they would try to send work my way any time they could, and that they were there for me with any questions at anytime. Then there was the Farmer. After all, he’s my partner in this life and I couldn’t just go quit my job and hope this worked out. We had to make this decision together. He looked right at me, smiled, and said, “Let’s do this.”
You guys, I couldn’t be more excited! I was going to do something that I’ve dreamed of my entire life and had the most amazing support system to go along with it. Not everyone was supportive. Not everyone thought I made a good life choice, but you know what? I did. I really did.
