Random Life of Kellie

My New, Old Farmhouse!

For the last 9 months my life was in construction mode. I thought it was NEVER going to end. Problems were constantly arising and so were tempers. I had things packed up for months and was sick of living out of a few boxes. We kept thinking that we could move and then something happened, something that prevented us from moving.

During the time of construction, I didn’t think our relationship was going to make it. We were always mad at each other, mad about things neither of us could do anything about. Then we moved in. Every worry in the world seemed to disappear. It was as if nothing was ever wrong. We were back to the young, happy, fun couple that we always were.

Now that our house is complete—besides the trim and some other minor details, it was worth it all. We are living a wonderful life in our little farmhouse! 🙂 …… But before I show you happy and wonderful, here is why our lives were so stressful. This was a much bigger project than we expected. This is what we started with:

So you’re probably wondering what the house looks like now? Well I just put some paint on the walls, scrubbed real good, and moved in. 😉 Just please remember when you see the pictures, this is still a work in progress—not all the trim is up, most of the window coverings are not up (and if they are up, they’re being held on by pins). I think it looks 100% different. I also didn’t pick up every little thing, I live in my house and you might as well see it as I do! 🙂 Let me know what you think of our 100 year old farmhouse!

So next time you take on a big project and think you’re going to pull your hair out, you are. Just remember it gets better and more beautiful! My house still isn’t complete, a year later. But I’m living in it with the people that matter most to me. Well plus Clarkie and Lily!

And for a little humor–I took these pictures of myself while doing work. The enthusiasm is radiating through these pictures. 🙂 Happy Monday Everyone!

  • We bought a house is 2012 and had to do the same thing. It was built in 1900 and last updated in the 1970’s. Here are the before pictures: http://lipstickandtractors.com/2013/07/16/house-renovations-before/ . I haven’t gotten around to the ‘after’ pictures, I really need to! But your house looks really great! It really never ends does it!? Because now you’ll be decorating and rearranging stuff 🙂 We still have a few boxes sitting around…

    • Girl get those pictures up! And I swear the decorating never ends!

  • Nice job Kellie! Did you guys do all the work yourself? Good luck getting settled now!

    • Yes we did everything ourselves! Lots of patience! Actually the farmer did most of it by himself with the help of family!

  • I feel your pain! We renovating our farmhouse right now too – tore down walls and everything. So frustrating living in mess and not feeling an escape. So worth it when it’s done – enjoy! Amazing how a fresh coat of paint helps!! 🙂

    • Your life feels so unorganized. it drove me nuts! ….. and I would never have known how much fresh paint does help until we did this project! Whole new house!

  • Love your house, you put a lot of hard work into it!! I grew up on a farm and I think the mice thought the house was theirs!!! Nothing like living in the country in Iowa – best place ever!! We now live in Colorado as my husband was transferred out here and I miss Iowa so much. It’s still my home after being out here for almost thirty years!! Best of luck to you!!
